Tall goldenrod is an herb generally found on drier soils. It is a species of prairies and other grasslands, old fields, roadsides, savannas and woodlands, also occurring in forest openings. It is found across the United States, Europe and Asia. Goldenrod is generally three to six feet tall and can be mistaken for Ragweed. The difference between Goldenrod and Ragweed, is that Goldenrod contains nectar, Ragweed does not. The nectar attracts bees to pollinate and also increases the plants healing benefits.
Goldenrod has many medicinal values. A few animal and test tube studies suggest Goldenrod may help reduce inflammation, relieve muscle spasms, fight infections, and lower blood pressure. It does seem to act like a diuretic and is used in Europe to treat urinary tract inflammation and to prevent or treat kidney stones. I have had great success with Core Goldenrod Blend.
